Free Downloads of IEEE SENSORS 2013 Presentations Until Sunday, 10 November 2013

With six parallel sessions, IEEE SENSORS 2013 participants will probably miss some important presentations they would have liked to see. Therefore, as an extra benefit for conference participants, more than 200* presentations are being recorded. The recordings consist of the authors’ slides and voice (no video).

The recordings are available for downloading, free to conference attendees only, from the day after the presentation until midnight Eastern USA time, Sunday, 10 November.

Last year, more than 10,000 presentations were downloaded by attendees.

The presentations may be downloaded at http://sensors2013online.org/

Subsequent to 10 November, the presentations will be available, at the same URL, for US$ 5- each for regular presentations, and US$ 25- per tutorial.

Student Leadership Committee

The IEEE Sensors Council is seeking volunteer members for its new Student Leadership Committee. As a student attendee of IEEE SENSORS 2013, you are eligible to join this initiative. Requirements for membership are that you be:

1) Actively engaged in a program of study that involves sensor technology research, development, and/or application.

2) Willing to engage with other students and with sensor professionals at the annual IEEE SENSORS Conference by attending the conference at least once every three years.

3) A volunteer to assist the IEEE SENSORS Conference Organizing committee in the conduct of the conferences by serving as a technical advisor to platform presentation sessions, guiding conference participants to specific venue locations, evaluating presentations for best student paper award selection, and/or similar activities.

Priority will be given to students in an engineering academic program at a university or college that has an active IEEE student branch.

If you are interested in joining this committee, please view the time slots (highlighted) complete the attached form and return it to Chris Dyer (cdyer@conferencecatalysts.com) along with the time(s) that you are able assist at the registration check-in counters and/or assist as a technical advisor to platform presentation sessions. At the registration counters, you will be asked to assist in handing out badges and conference bags to attendees. As a technical advisor to platform presentation sessions, you will be asked to assist initiating and monitoring screen capture software on the presentation computers for the lecture sessions. You will receive further details as the conference approached.

Conference Banquet

Our Conference Gala dinner will be held at The Historic B&O Railroad Museum, on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm. Located among Baltimore City's historic southwest neighborhoods, at the original site of the historic Mt. Clare Shops, the B&O Railroad Museum is recognized universally as the birthplace of American railroading. It was here within the Museum's 40-acre campus that Baltimore businessmen, surveyors, and engineers set about building the B&O Railroad in 1829, laying the first commercial long-distance track, building the first passenger station, and inventing America's unique railroad. Overview:

With their ability to provide real-time feedback about our bodies, our movements, our activities, and our interaction with the world around us, wearable sensors promise to be a pervasive part of our everyday lives. Embedded systems provide wearable sensors with wireless connectivity and grant them a level of computing power undreamed of just a few years ago. This panel will facilitate a discussion about the possibilities for this emerging market as well as some remaining technology challenges, the solution to which will usher in this new revolution.

The panel discussion will focus on are various factors that must guide the design and development process for wearable sensors. In addition to the more common tradeoffs such as battery life, integration level, and feature set, these systems need to address human factors that will allow these devices to become an accepted (or even sought-after) feature of our daily attire. The panelists have a wide variety of approaches and applications for wearable technology and the session will highlight the benefits of their technology and platforms and lessons learned through the development process.
